5.2 CLIMATE UPDATE
Santa Rosa Police Department:
Juvenile arrests are up and the number of ghost guns seized is
up slightly.
Sonoma County Juvenile Probation:
The Juvenile Hall population is averaging around 60 youth and
about 240 youth are under supervision, including in the
community. More murals were painted around the facility recently
and some youth were able to be involved.
District Attorney's Office:
The Keeping Kids in School program has shown a lot of success
recently with a reduction in truancies and a smaller percentage of
cases going to truancy Court. Changes in legislation have more
adults working towards less restrictive environments or being
re-sentenced, however, a lack of resources and support for
re-entry was noted.
Family Justice Center staff were not in attendance.
Public Defender:
Staff noted legislation is supporting lower sentencing.
InRESPONSE:
The team receives 500 or more calls each month with a noted
increase in calls for service for ages 0 - 17 years old. There is a
weekly resource drop-in space available at the Buckelew Office,
free to all.
Santa Rosa City Schools:
Acting Superintendent was unable to stay the length of the
meeting and did not report out.
Roseland Schools:
School closures and budget cuts are planned for the upcoming
school year and the community and staff are asking that school
safety remain a priority.
