The meeting was called to order by Chair Pitts at 5:05 PM

3. PUBLIC COMMENTS IN NON-AGENDA MATTERS  
Duane De Witt:  
Appreciation to Parks Supervisors for efforts to maintain the Parks.  
Would like to attend the next City Council Meeting and express his opinion for  
park naming when park renaming is discussed.

Chair Pitts and Board Member Cruz abstained from comment as they were not  
present during the July 26, 2023, meeting.  
5. REPORTS ON UPCOMING EVENTS AND ACCOMPLISHED EVENTS  
A list of accomplished and upcoming events was distributed to the Board and  
made available to the public prior to the meeting. Acting Director, Jen Santos  
highlighted the following:  
*Acting Director Jen Santos recommended and Chair Pitts moved item #8.2 to  
be heard in advance of agenda item’s 5 - 8.1 due to schedule conflicts for the  
presenter.  
Upcoming Highlights:  
Sept 2: Park-A-Month volunteer Clean Up at Olive Park & Prince Memorial  
Accomplishment Highlights:  
August 4: Over 300 participants at the Neighborhood Services annual  
SPLASH BASH at Ridgway Pool, which is a free swim night for Neighborhood  
Services members along with a hot-dog dinner, pool games and a free raffle.

6. DIRECTOR UPDATES  
Acting Director Santos provided the following updates:  
BOCS scheduled presentation items for October - Day Camps and Work  
Experience will move to September and September’s presentation - Howarth  
Park Recreation and Maintenance, will move to October.  
The Parks Department is monitoring the invasive beetle attacking oak trees.  
Staff was able to attend education training and is developing a plan of action.  
City Council approved a $2mil transfer of unassigned General Funds to the  
Bennett Valley Golf Course for the updating of the irrigation supply system.  
The Iron and Vine Restaurant at the BVGC has received new carpets.  
Sherinne Wilson, Recreation Supervisor of Neighborhood Services has retired  
after 30 years of service. Joanne Moore has been promoted to this position.  
September 12: The Finley Aquatic Project “award of construction” bid will be  
on the City Council agenda for approval.  
September 12: The BVGC golf cart lease will be on the City Council agenda  
for approval.  
Southeast Greenway approved by Council for purchase is being cooperatively  
coordinated between the City of Santa Rosa and the Ag and Open Space.  
There will be a tour of the Greenway, hosted by the Sonoma Land Trust and  
open to the public, on August 28th at 6pm.  
7. CHAIR/BOARD MEMBERS’ REPORTS  
The Chair and Board Members may provide brief updates relevant to their  
district, Recreation and Parks, or updates relevant to the subject matter within  
the jurisdiction of the Board of Community Services  
Chair Pitts: Met with Sonoma Land Trust regarding the SE Greenway.  
Attended the Juilliard Park music in the park. Visited: Jennings, Eastside, and  
Brendon Park.  
Vice Chair Castillo: Attended a child’s birthday party at Howarth Park.  
Enjoyed the carousel and amenities at the park.  
Member Quandt: Attended Juilliard Park music in the park. Visited Rincon  
Ridge native park. Will be attending the UC Davis Board Beetle Seminar.  
Member Cruz: Reminder, 9/16 at 3:00pm, Dry Creeks Big Time at the Dry  
Creek Redwood Arbor 3288 Skaggs Springs Rd.  
Member Boccaleoni: Southwest Community Park (SWCP) looks good and  
has some ideas about SWCP to share at a later date. Also, wanted to  
comment for the record that the SE Greenway should be a freeway/highway  
and not a park.  
Member Lopez: Thanks to Julie Guzy for her hosting the Board.  
Member Spence: Reminder, 9/18 at 7:00pm, Merit Awards at the Finley  
Center. Visited Galvin Park and the BVGC Iron and Vine Restaurant.
