BACKGROUND: The Community Advisory Board (CAB) reviews and approves the 2026 Community Improvement Grant Applications. The Board shall award grants to the applicants whose projects best meet the criteria. There are three grants that have been submitted and meet the criteria for the Aug-Sept 2026 period:
The Northend California Center for Well-Being is requesting $2,500 to support the 2026 Mesa Llena Project. Mesa Llena is a community-centered food access project designed to ensure that Santa Rosa residents, particularly immigrant and mixed-status families experiencing fear related to the current immigration climate, can continue accessing the food they need. Community Health Workers (CHWs) observed that many families had stopped attending traditional food distribution sites and were hesitant to apply for or use public food assistance programs that require the sharing of personal information. The Education Refuge is requesting $2,000 to support The Education Refuge Project. This project addresses the educational resource gap faced by low-income refugee, immigrant, and asylum-seeking K-12 students in Santa Rosa by providing laptops, Wi-Fi hotspots, and school readiness materials to support learning outside of school hours. With $2,000 in funding, students will receive technology and supplies based on individual need, helping expand access to educational opportunities and reduce achievement gaps. As of 2026, Edurefuge partners with 10 refugee-serving organizations and has connected more than 200 vulnerable students nationwide to free tutoring and educational support services.

Roseland University Prep is requesting $1,652.13 to fund their RUP Native Plant Island Beautification & Art Project. This project honors the Southern Pomo and Coast Miwok peoples by transforming a school space into a native, environmentally sustainable landscape that promotes learning, community connection, and historical awareness. The project will provide students and the broader community with opportunities to learn about indigenous history, the benefits of native plants, and environmental stewardship, while creating a gathering space that fosters unity and supports local ecosystems. This project will serve as a lasting source of learning and unity for current and future students.
