UPDATE REGARDING A POTENTIAL REGIONAL ORGANICS PROCESSING FACILITY AND PREPARATION OF A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
In late 2018/early 2019, the City, Zero Waste Sonoma, and Renewable Sonoma began negotiations regarding a potential regional organics processing facility proposed to be located on City-owned property adjacent to the Laguna Treatment Plant. The property under consideration for siting of the project was previously the home of the City’s Biosolids Compost Facility which closed in May 2020. On May 20, 2021, after two and a half years of negotiations, Renewable Sonoma decided to end negotiations with Zero Waste Sonoma on the potential development of the facility, and with the City for siting of the project on city-owned property. Since Renewable Sonoma ended negotiations, Santa Rosa Water has identified both immediate and potential future operational needs to utilize the site of the closed Biosolids Compost Facility.
